Traveling From Port de La Savina

By Amistad Abaya

If you want to see some serious money floating in the water then Formentera's marina in the summer is the place to be. Alongside the standard ferries calling in at the port are some yachts that take your breath away. It is a far cry from the days when this natural harbor was used to export sabina pine.

Whether you are in Sant Antoni or Santa Eularia, you can get a ferry to La Savina. During the summer there are many ports that have boats departing for Formentera, including Palma, Barcelona, Altea, Alicante, and Denia. And there is also a boat between La Savina and Espalmador.

When you are in La Savina you will find that there is a decent collection of restaurants, cafes and tapas bars. With a nice modern marina to look out on it's worth chilling here for a bit. It is also a very practical village as you are able to hire and buy everything you might need for your stay on the island, from motorbikes to toilet paper. There is a tourist office on the dock, so just pop in and ask them for some help.

La Savina is next to Formentera's two salt water lakes: Estany Pudent and Estany des Peix. These sit just behind the port and are very easy to get to. You can cycle all around Estany Pudent and take in its rich wildlife which thrive in the wetlands that surround the lake. If lakes are not your thing then you can also head to the beaches of Es Trucadors.

Formentera's main resort of Es Pujols is where a through of people always head after arriving at La Savina. The warm, turquoise waters lap against white beaches and you can enjoy just about any water sport here, from diving to windsurfing. There is a local company Wet4Fun that rents equipment and gives lessons to beginners.

In the evenings Es Pujols turns into a lively network of market stalls along the promenade of Avenida Miramar and into the high street of Passeig des Plameres. The locals, some of whom are aging hippies, sell a lot of hand made goods.

What Camping Equipment do you need?

By Suzanne Noctor

Are you looking for an outdoor activity that involves your whole family to help them get closer to each other? Then it is worth thinking about camping. However to ensure that the camping trips you go on as a family will be ones that all enjoy you must make sure you get the right kind of camping equipment. This is what will ensure that you are well protected when outdoors no matter what the weather is like and so ensuring that the first trip you take as a family will be a memorable one.

What particular items will need to be brought by you before you head off on a camping trip with your loved ones? In this article we take a look at three of the most important camping equipment items you will need.

1. Tent - Of all the items of equipment you will need when camping this is the most important of them all and you should be the first thing you buy. It is the place that not only will you sleep each night but also somewhere that you can go to should the weather turn bad. So make sure that the one you select is the type that will meet all your family's needs and offer enough space for everybody to sleep in it.

As there are so many different types of tents to choose from it can prove a challenge deciding which one is right for you. For those families that are going to be doing lots of walking the tent they select should be as light weight as possible and also doesn't take up too much space. The tents that you have to select from include the tunnel, dome, modified dome, teepee and freestanding kinds.

2. Sleeping Bag - This again is a very important piece of equipment for your camping trip and must be purchased before you go. There are certain things that you will need to take into consideration when making your purchases. The first of these being what material it has been made from. Although traditional style sleeping bags are made from wool and cotton they can prove to be bulky to carry so you are better off going for those using the latest high tech light weight materials instead. Just as with traditional sleeping bags these will provide a good level of insulation ensuring that your body's core temperature is maintained.

3. A Backpack/Rucksack - After you have chosen the tent and sleeping bag now you need to decide what of these you will be purchasing. When it comes to this particular item of camping equipment make sure that it is one that provides enough room for all those items you need to take with you on your trip but will be comfortable when being carried. Ideally look for those that come with shoulder straps that are well padded and wide so that they disperse the weight inside evenly preventing stress being placed on your body.

Also when buying this piece of camping equipment it is a good idea when in the store to try a number of different kinds out. Don't be afraid to ask the store to put in some items to give it some weight as this will help to determine if the straps sit well on your shoulders and so ensure that you don't feel uncomfortable when carrying it as you walk.

Ireland Needs to Be On Your List Of Gay Destinations

By Howie Holben

Ireland has been good for gay vacations at least since the time of Oscar Wilde, although in those days it was not necessarily a friendly country for the LGBT community. Like Wilde, many people were jailed or sent away for hard labor for what was legally termed "indecency" and, until 1861, acts of sodomy were even punishable by death, but Ireland has come a long way since these dark days, decriminalizing same-sex sexual behavior in 1993 and legalizing civil unions in 2009.

While this does not mean that this largely Catholic country is ready to embrace same-sex relationships in every village - or even every city - Ireland is now far more welcoming and can safely be considered a great place for gay travel. Several larger cities, including Dublin, Galway, Cork and Waterford, have visible, active communities, community celebrations, numerous establishments catering or welcoming to the community and plenty of attractions to fill an entire vacation; however, whether travelers choose to participate in solo travel or gay tours, one should not miss the Irish countryside and quaint, traditional villages that dot the verdant landscape or sit atop breathtaking coastal cliffs during their vacation to Ireland as well.

While several larger cities now have annual community celebrations, pubs and clubs, community organizations and a visible LGBT scene, Dublin is unquestionably the center of LGBT life in Ireland and should be part of any gay travel plans to this country. Dublin nightlife offers both a casual pub scene and an upscale club scene complete with dress codes, which allows those on gay vacations to experience two very different aspects of local LGBT life. There are also a number of community festivals that take place throughout the year, including the Dublin International LGBTQ Pride Festival in June, the Dublin Lesbian and Gay Film Festival in July and the Dublin Gay Theatre Festival in May.

Regardless of which time of year you partake in gay travel to Ireland, there will be some sort of activities going on, which will be listed in GCN - Ireland's most-read community magazine - so, if you enjoy the scene, you will definitely want to pick up a copy when you get to town. Some of the attractions that you will not want to miss while in Dublin include the Book of Kells, the Guinness Storehouse, the Hugh Lane Gallery, the Old Jameson Distillery, the Oscar Wilde House Museum and The George, which is Dublin's quintessential community bar.

Those planning gay travel tours may want to consider participating in a group gay tour. This is a great way to make sure you are able to enjoy many of the most intriguing natural, cultural and historical attractions this romantic country has to offer.

Figure Out How To Download Movies Right To Your Computer Immediately

By Flora Callahan

For a cheap subscription cost you can get infinite access to thousands and thousands of movies. It takes just a few minutes to download and you can use your computer display as the picture display or you can use the software to transfer the picture to a disc and watch it on your TV. The selection of movies is pretty much infinite.

You no longer have to stand in line at the video store or wait for the mail to come to watch the movie that you want to see. You can now watch the precise movie you want virtually instantaneously by downloading it instantly to your computer.

In the future downloading is most likely the way all of us will get our movies. It will no longer be necessary to rent or buy DVD's and we can get them at whatever time we want them with no waiting. The technology is available now for you to take advantage of.

If you do a search engine search for downloadable movies you will see that there are various options. You can even download movies for free and while you may be tempted to take advantage of that alternative you will be putting your computer at a high threat for different types of adware, malware and even viruses. A respectable membership site will cost a few bucks but it won't nearly be as much as if you have to get your computer repaired or replaced.

The free options could potentially put your computer at danger for any number of difficulties. Downloading movies for free is just too chancy especially since the charge of memberships is so inexpensive.

More often than not you will find that membership costs are quite cheap and they are certainly much less than going out to a theater. They tend to be quite comparable to memberships to video stores or mail in movie memberships. One main advantage though is that you can get the movie you really want when you really want it.

Right now there is quite a bit of file sharing going on and more and more websites are allowing users to download movies, games and software. When you download such things you need to make sure that you are only getting what you asked for and nothing else. By joining a reliable download site you can download an limitless sum of movies for no additional price.

The membership rates that you will have to to pay will range depending upon the duration of the subscription and the payment plans. There are also sites that offer a pay per download choice if you do not want to download too many movies. If you are planning on downloading and watching a lot of movies a longer subscription is perhaps a smarter option.

Most highly regarded sites offer games, music and software in addition to movies all included in the same price.

As you search for movie downloads you may find some websites that are offering to let you download movies for at no cost. If you think about it, you will agree that it is not actually feasible to offer such a beneficial service for nothing and that there must be a trap. You will be putting your computer at threat for viruses, adware and malware or even worse. There are copyright laws and lawful constraints that the reputable sites take into consideration and if you are sensible you will stick with the sites that are doing it the official and honest way.

One consideration that may concern you is the fact that anytime you download a movie it will take up space on your hard drive. You may want to download the movie and transfer it to the DVD disc so that you can go ahead and erase it from your computer. It just depends on the room you have and how you use that room.

The Language of Love - Valentine Flowers

By Anne J. Michaels

Think about having an intimate conversation with a loved one. Would it be possible to have that conversation without speaking or writing? Suppose you found someone you'd like to know better. How could you develop that relationship without speaking or writing?

That was the situation in Victorian England for much of the 1800's. Due to the strict social etiquette of the time, extreme discretion was required. Conversations of a romantic nature were strictly off-limits. But emotional expression cannot be denied for long. Symbolism and meaning became attached to everyday objects and gestures, and especially to flowers.

The result was "secret" messages hidden in bouquets of flowers. Different meanings were attached to every type and color of flower, how they were presented, and how they were received. Many of the messages were romantic in nature. Some messages were rejections, and even insults. An exchange of flowers became a complete conversation.

Tussie-mussies, small bouquets of flowers, became very popular. Using the language of flowers, Victorians developed secret messages that declared their intentions, issued rejections, and made acceptances. Emotions that were forbidden in speech or writing could now be expressed in flowers.

As the symbolism grew more complex, many details of the secret codes were written down. Eventually dictionaries and even books were written to clarify the meanings and to help people better create and understand the messages.

Before the Victorians, other cultures used flowers to express emotions. In ancient times cultures like the Greeks and Persians gave their own meanings to flowers. The Japanese too, created their own flower language. The exact meanings of the flowers and colors change over time to fit the needs of the culture but the use of flowers to express emotions continues to this day.

Many cultures had elaborate and lengthy courtship rituals. The giving and receiving of flowers was often an important part of the process. Those practices led to the prominent place of flowers in our modern culture. Valentines Day, Mothers Day, and Easter, among others, simply wouldn't be the same celebrations without flowers and plants.

Like the Victorians, we still use flowers to express our emotions. Unlike them, our messages are typically much simpler. For Valentine's Day this year, instead of sending a simple message, try a bouquet of mixed flowers for a message full of hidden meaning. Search online for "language of flowers" for some great ideas. Be sure to add a note to the bouquet to explain the deeper message. Don't forget to order your Valentine's flowers early to ensure a timely delivery.

There Are Superb Gardens In Cheshire No Matter The Time Of Year

By Mark Ferguson

Of all the visits that take place to some of the greatest English country gardens, more than 1 in 8 take place at gardens in Cheshire, no matter the time of year. It is a county that is renowned for its exquisite gardens and the people are known for being "green fingered". Cheshire celebrated its garden heritage in 2008 during the "Cheshire Year of Gardens".

A visit to Rhode Hall in February will find you walking amongst the snowdrops, while Cholmondeley Castle in spring features massive sweeps of daffodils - blossoms at their absolute best. Arley Hall is best in summer with its bold colours and lush herbaceous borders and taking the Walled Garden Rose Walk at Norton Priory is outstanding. The Ness Botanical Gardens and Lyme Park are also famous gardens, and Lyme Park has an 18th century Dutch garden which offsets its grandeur and history. The famous Japanese garden at Tatton Park is a must see in Autumn as the maple trees vividly mark the turn of the seasons.

Because of there being so many magnificent gardens, virtually everyone in this county is gardening mad, and you will also find many well stocked garden centres.

Just to mention two of these famous settings in more depth we have to mention Cholmondeley Castle. There are a number of different walks for visitors to follow, or they are able to just wander around at their leisure, the garden offers a splendid view of the gothic castle but do make sure you take in the "Silver Garden'. This is a Bakewell silver and iron work feature which celebrated the Queen's Silver Jubilee. The rose garden is the youngest addition to Cholmondeley Castle and was only completed during the early 1950's.

The Cholmondeley family has lived in this castle since the 12th century, but it is the present Lady Cholmondeley who has taken such an interest in the gardens as we see them today.

The Gardens of Arley Hall are vast, romantic and not to be missed, the centerpiece is undoubtedly the Temple Garden in which a small lake features which is filled with giant Koi. The temple was taken from the old hall after the Civil War, and in this part of the garden there is a massive variety of flowering shrubbery.

The herbaceous border is one of the items that this garden is most famous for, it is reputed to be the oldest of its kind in the British Isles and was laid in 1846 by the Egerton-Warburton family who still own the hall.

How to Ash a Cigar

By Dave Sabot

Smoking a cigar is very unlike smoking a cigarette. The right time to ash a cigarette is when the ash becomes inconveniently long. The tobacco in cigarettes is cheap and hot-burning. Conversely, the tobacco in a cigar is expensive and burns best when it's kept at a lower temperature. This ensures the very best flavor.

Figuring out how much of an ash gives the best flavor will depend not only on the smoker's preference but on the cigar in question. Some cigars will burn hotter than others and, thus, need more of an ash. Remember that the first few puffs of a cigar will be the point at which the ash is at its hottest. Cigar lighters, such as Colibri lighters, oftentimes have a very hot flame and the first few puffs are not representative of the overall flavor of the cigar owning to the heat. Once an ash is generated, the real flavor begins.

While a cigar is certainly hot, it should not be so hot that it affects the taste of the tobacco. This is why very powerful lighters, such as the various Lotus torch lighter models, are held a bit away from the cigar during the lighting process. To burn, fire or embers require fuel, oxygen and heat. The ash regulates the amount of oxygen the cherry receives and, thus regulates the overall temperature of the burn. As any smoker is aware, the first puff off of a cigar is usually the hottest. The temperature of the smoke mellows as ash is generated.

The ash also affects how easily one can draw off of the cigar. Of course, a thicker, heavier ash means that it will be a harder draw for the smoker. No ash means that the draw will be very easy but also may mean that the ember will be burning too hot to ensure quality flavor. The art of cigar smoking involves finding a happy medium between the two. It may take some time but, then again, all worthwhile things have that quality to them.

The only other concern of which one should be aware has to do with being outdoors. If one flicks their ash too early, it may pull the cherry, or part of it, off of the cigar along with it. This can result in a fire hazard and should be something toward which one should give proper attention. A longer ash will tend to drop off under its own weight. Let it detach a bit on its own before ashing to make sure none of the burning tobacco is pulled away with it when one is in a dry area.

The Joys Of Small Printers

By John Bassinger

There was a time when traveling with a printer was a pain second to none. You needed to haul around a desktop printer the size of a large dog, you could try to bring along a famously temperamental ink jet, or you might decide that you needed a thermal printer, like the printers that grocery stores use to print out receipts.

Every single type of printer had drawbacks. With the thermal printer, you had to use a special kind of paper and the output looked rather strange. Ink jets had good results, but even slight changes in the temperature, the humidity and the way they were placed could affect their ability to function; you might spend way more time trying to clean the heads that you ever did on the printing and the cost per page was exorbitant!

Or, you'd get a 'laptop' printer which needed to be babied, and had an average service life between failures of about three months. None of these were particularly great solutions; they tended to make people cranky and make IT departments unhappy at supporting them.

However, as technology has advanced, desktop printers have shrunk in size, from 70 lb behemoths to 20 lb items that are somewhat smaller. This has happened with both inkjet printers and lasers, and some inkjets have gotten more robust at how they deal with temperature and humidity changes.

The real gem in this lineup is the shrinking laser printer, however. They were initially produced for college students who had little space and these small personal printers worked out quite nicely, produce pages in the rage of 12 per minute. They had good durability cycles and they could be packed up tidily at the end of the semester.

Cost per page on consumables for a laser is about 7 cents per black and white page with 10% coverage - typical reports (or papers) won't strain them. For some of the more robust photo printers, the cost per page is upwards of a dollar, but it is kind of neat to be able to print out hard copies of your photos on your vacation while you're there.

Remember that when we are talking about small printers, we mean small! For instance, the PH 1006 Personal LaserJet is just a little bit bigger than a toaster. When we go to trade shows, it is invaluable for printing out sales reports and data sheets for our customers, it comes in at 14'' wide, by 8'' deep by 9'' tall, and it even folds down neatly into its box.

Though the pass through tray is something that you can use, we leave it off, as it is something of a pain. The ease of getting it set up, the low cost of its ink cartridges and the impressive functionality all make this a great printer and when you are on the road, these factors are all things that you need to look for.

The Amazing Marvel Of The Great Barrier Reef

By Matt Fuller

From space, so many wonderful features of the Earth are visible. However, one of the greatest natural wonders of the world stands out in the oceans and waters the most. That's the Great Barrier Reef, something built not by mankind but by Mother Nature herself.

The Great Barrier Reef is the only living collective that can be seen from space. This description means that out of all the natural features that an astronaut might see from above the Earth, only the reef itself is alive. A reef is a collective of living organisms, coexisting and working together to sustain themselves.

Reefs in general are built by hard corals growing on the stony skeletons of previous colonies of now dead coral. Their shapes might be tubes, domes, or branches. Australia's infamous reef generally grows about one point three centimeters a year, which isn't very much in human terms but in terms of the Earth, it's quite a bit.

Individual coral colony members are called polyps, and are made up of a clear body that usually harbors algae. That's where most coral gets its colour from. Coral polyps are related to sea anemones and jellyfish. By giving the algae a safe home in shallow water, the algae is able to turn sunlight into sugars that can be used by the coral for energy. The interdependency of these species on the Great Barrier Reef is just one of the things that makes this natural wonder so special.

Other creatures also call the Great Barrier Reef home, such as thirty species of whales, dolphins and porpoises. Dwarf minke whales and more rare humpback whales roam the bottomless-seeming edges of the reef, while sea turtles and dugongs stick to the shallower water and feed on the many beds of sea grass. Salt water crocodiles prey on the many exotic fish found in the shallows, and live in the salty marsh habitats of the mangroves along the coast.

As humans take greater interest in the world and how it is put together, the value of natural wonders like the Great Barrier Reef become more obvious. Not only is it a hot tourist destination ideal for scuba diving and snorkeling, the reef also contributes to the temperatures of oceans near and far. Many of the species of animals that live in the reef can't be found anywhere else. This beautiful eco-system is being kept safe by the many cities around it that rely on it for tourism and fishing. And there are still many great spots for people to experience the reef up close and personal, making it one of the most popular places to go on vacation.

Be sure that you have proper identification you would need when you travel. Other than your passport, be ready to have an international driver's license. You'll never know when you will need to drive a car in case an emergency arises. Just be careful with your credit cards because there are some countries where theft is high and you might end up paying for stuff you never bought only because you lost your credit cards.

4. Learn the language

You need not master their entire language, but at least learn how to greet and thank them in their language. Almost everyone on the planet speak at least some English, so you are safe as long as you know that language.

5. Know the currency

Some of the major differences of each country are the currencies. When the shopping starts, there may be little time to convert from one currency to another. At least have an idea how much the baseline conversion of the country's money where you are going so that you may avoid overspending when you get there.

6. Inform relatives about your trip

It may be more of a precautionary measure, than an announcement, but for long trips, it would be better if there are people who know where you or you and your family are going. Someone has to look after your house, pets, and or family business. And it would be better for people to know just in case you missed your scheduled arrival from your trip, at least it would alert them when to expect you back.

7. Do not forget to bring home lots of memories

Enjoy traveling as much as you can and treat everything from your trip as lessons that can be added to your experience and be shared to your family and friends.

Frugal Living in Retirement...Try Living Aboard a Sailboat

By Gary P Pierce

When you mention frugal living some immediately think of sacrificing and denial...frugal living does not have to be like that at all. Think of life living on a sailboat...that's fun not sacrifice.

Retirement plans have been shaken recently by the current poor economy. Some are saying, my IRA's and 401K's just won't fund retirement. We open our statements with trembling hands. You are not alone. Just do not totally give up on retirement yet.

Have you considered lifestyles that are not only cheaper but also enjoyable? Living on a sailboat is something we did for eight straight wonderful years. It was not only the most fun we have ever had it was a very cheap lifestyle as well.

How is sailboat life frugal or cheap? We lived on our boat, a 35 foot Island Packet, in the Caribbean. From the British Virgin Islands to the north, to Venezuela and Trinidad in the south. We spent around $1,000 a month while we were on the boat. We lived quite well and spent next to nothing. How are you going to spend a lot of money when you are anchored? The closest thing to spending money is a fisherman coming up with a lobster, conch or fish. Sometimes you can barter, fishermen need cold beer just like you and I.

You will have fun living on a sailboat...no surprise there. We enjoyed each island we came to...usually in the company of fellow boaters. We hiked and explored all of the island. We met locals that were very happy to share their island. We avoided the tourist places and experienced the real Caribbean, all without spending a lot of money.

How much did we know about sailing?...Not much. Please don't believe you have to be an old salt to live this lifestyle. Once you get to the islands (Windward's and Leeward's) your longest journey between islands is 90 miles or 16 to 18 hours. The islands are , save Anguilla and Anegada, very mountainous so you can see where you are going. Your GPS takes care of the tough stuff. What a great invention.

Living aboard a sailboat can be a fun and frugal way to retire. We enjoyed this this great way of living for eight years...so can you.

How to Build A Shed

By Jorge DeLaSalle

A shed can be of various sizes and shapes. It should suit one's taste of shape, size, color, decoration, purpose, budgetary considerations etc. Apart from these, technical aspects should be taken care of.

Irrespective of whatever size and shape, the foundation is the foremost and important aspect. Before proceeding further, have a design of the shed blueprinted.

Outdoor sheds can be built at the back of the house if there is enough space for one. Sheds must be built on leveled ground so that it stands straight. If the level of the ground is uneven then the shed will shake. So the foundations must be steady so that the shed remains stable.

The stability of the ground and compactness of the soil form important factors. Treated pine, lumber wood and teak wood are good materials for constructing an all-season shed. Once the piers are put in place at equidistant predetermined spots; floor joists are to be made.

They make different plans depending on the size and style you and they include material lists so it makes building the shed really easy. Also these plans are professionally engineered so when you submit them to the building department there will be no problems.

I dont own a truck so I was a little worried about getting the materials to my house, but luckily our local hardware store delivers.

Nowadays people dont have to build sheds which are anchored to the ground; they can build portable sheds. This type of sheds are mostly preferred by people who keep on moving from place to place.

That is it. Your shed is ready to be occupied, either for yourselves or your pets or for storage.
