What To Give The Newlyweds

I consider myself a passably bright guy, but I'm a certified numb skull when it comes to finding the right gift. When it comes to weddings, its a double handicap. Weddings are not my strong suit, and when confronted with the task of finding that special something, I wander my local shopping district in a confused daze. In fact, that's where I am right now. Don't get me wrong. My heart is in the right place. I don't want to get my newlywed friends some high-end tchotchke that will collect dust on their mantelpiece. Nor do I want to fall back on the cliched toaster, or any number of unimaginative food processors. I did receive that email from one of the one of the bridesmaids a while back about the wedding registry sign up, but I was intimidated by the whole notion. Wedding registries seem so impersonal to me.

So this leaves me back at square one, which is staring at an information map in my local area. To the left of me are shoe stores. No, I'm not interested in getting the new husband and wife a pair of Crocks (not that I have anything against Crocks). To the right, is a music store. I veto that as well , as everyone downloads music nowadays. Moreover, I don't want to get them something common.

I'm trying to find the definitive wedding gift. Something that will stand out as a great gift but at the same time will be painfully obvious when I come across it. It almost sounds impossible. I start investigating some random electronics store. Then I flashback to a couple months prior when I surprised my aunt with an electric toothbrush for her birthday. Im still recovering from that faux pa.

My search has yielded no results. I'm about to quit when I realize something. I start to think what kind of gift I would like to receive. Then it hits me, the perfect gift is an item you would love to receive but would never buy for yourself. With this in mind I finally made my decision. Kitchen ware. While kitchen appliances are completely cliched kitchen ware always makes a great gift. An arrangement of plates, vases, or even a nice pitcher would be perfect.

My newlywed friends loved the gift. They were happily surprised I got them such a luscious gift that wasn't on the registry. They told me how it was going to go on their mantle for display at their (new) home. Now they love speaking about my gift to visitors who come over and ask where they had gotten such a nice centerpiece from.
