When you go and watch the Wrestler online you are presented with a plot about Randy Robinson, a washed up wrestler who actually was quite famous in the late 1980s. Playing this part is the actor Mickey Rourke, playing the part of Randy who after 20 years of retirement from wrestling makes a dramatic return after seeing his life turned upside down.

Being out of the limelight for so long gives Randy the chance to rekindle relationships which soured while he was so busy with his fame. And so, while still doing wrestling performances in front of small crowds, we see him try to rekindle the lost bond with his estranged daughter (Evan Rachel Wood), as well as witnessing a blossoming romance with a stripper played by Marisa Tomei.

Even so Randy's real ambition is to still be able to perform in front of many adoring fans. This causes him much chagrin that changes him into a depressed forlorn figure. The fact is that a heart attack in a routine match forced this retirement upon him making him tackle life from a different perspective and hence why he rebuilds his relationships to make up perhaps for the adoration he was getting from his fans? Even so the film portrays this in a moving and joyful way giving us hope that even when we lose something we love there will always be something else to replace it. Or at least that is the message I got from it.

As we witness Randy rebuilding his relationship with his daughter and love life, we also catch a glimpse in the world of pro wrestlers. When we watch the wrestler online we do not see the bitter feuds, jealousies and fighting as they interact behind the ring. Rather the director portrays these wrestlers as a compact unit looking out for each other which is in contrast to what you would expect if you see live shows.

When you watch the wrestler online more than anything you will will witness how the film director, Darren Aronofsky, portrays Randy as a deflated hero who lost everything and the effect this has on him. This gives us a great insight of how similar sporting heros must feel, especially those who had to retire due to similar circumstances ie injuries etc.

But then we go from this tone of desperation to one of joy as Randy makes his come back and regains his hero status made even more sweeter by the fact that his daughter is no longer estranged but also sees him as a hero and he also has a more meaningful romantic interest. The whole film is excellently accompanied by great melancholy rock music of the 80s with tracks especially written by Bruce Springsteen and Axl Rose. In fact in the film Randy is portrayed as a great Guns and Roses fan.

Hence as we watch the wrestler online we are awash with a whole range of emotions, with moments of tense drama, sad moments, and then triumphant and joyful moments to wrap it all up. It is a great feel good movie and one which tips Mickey Rourke to lift an oscar as the best actor and also possibly, even at this early stage, the best film of the year.
