The Masquerade theme party became popular in Venice in the 15th century amongst high society. It is thought that the original purpose was so they could get away with cheating on their wives without their true identity being known.

The Masquerade theme party is now popular all over the world. The main point being that guests get to hide their identities by wearing masks. You'll be amazed at what you can get away with when nobody knows who you are!

If you're thinking of throwing a Masquerade theme party, follow these tips to help you make it a party to remember:

1. Send out your invitations on a face mask. This can be a cardboard cut out or an actual mask!

2. Both men and women should try and dress up as flamboyant and outlandish as possible. Consider having an award for the best outfit.

3. All guests have to be wearing face masks. Venetian face masks are the most traditional. You can if you choose have a public unveiling at midnight!

4. Consider hiring a professional photographer and have him stationed at the entrance. Your guests will love this little touch!

5. Just in case any of your guests forget or fail to bring their own masks, you had better have a spare supply ready just in case!

6. Turn the lighting down and scatter plenty of candles around the room. This will succeed in creating a mystical aura about your party!

7. Musically, the best thing you could do would be to hire out a string quartet. This will not be to everybody's budget, so you could play classical music instead.

8. Masquerade theme parties are grand occasions. The food should reflect this fact! Dinner should be a seated affair. If you have a limited budget, then fine finger buffets will suffice.

9. Go for nice wine or champagne to drink. You should serve it in your best glasses.
