Hawaii is an awesome place. I love it. It's absolutely heavenly, with the warm sun shining down on your skin, the sound of rushing waves, and all the lovely ladies. At this moment, there is nowhere I'd much rather be than Hawaii.
But then, it wasn't always like this for me. I'm not originally from Hawaii; I just came here to escape it all. The life in my previous home had become boring, and I couldn't stand it anymore.
Moving to Hawaii is no simple task. I made sure I had enough money in my bank account to get me through the move and keep me alive whilst I looked for a job in Hawaii. I didn't know anyone there at all, and it was literally a journey into unknown parts. Of course, I was hesitant, but I decided in the end that my savings could handle it. I just had to be savvy and not ration my funds in case things didn't work out.
So I got to Hawaii as a vacation at first. As I looked around, however, I quickly figured out that my skill set would not be adequate to get a decent job here. So, I was resigned to just go home, and take this as a normal vacation.
But then, as I was surfing (on the Internet, not out there on the beach) one night, I found this site that lists down the scheduled craft shows in Hawaii. Not to brag, but I know a thing or two about woodcarving, and I thought that this was an opportunity for me to earn a little something on the side.
Only problem was, I was afraid that I would have to compete with genuine Hawaiian crafts. My own style is a lot different, and I myself will not try Hawaiian crafts, because it will just look fake. But then, I should try at least once. No harm in that.
My concerns were unfounded in the end, fortunately. While my crafts definitely did not catch the eyes of visiting tourists, my crafted items were a hit with the local crowd. It was a welcome change of pace for them, and they became excited about me participating in the next craft show. All's well that end's well.

When he was young, Rick Amorey always wanted to visit Hawaii Craft Shows. He currently lives in the Hawaiian Islands, and will probably still stay on for another two years while making money through Hawaii Craft Fairs.
