Auctions are common blockbuster hits during craft fairs. Auctions are just that, the usual bidding and all that jazz. You could go for a dramatic auction, or you could go for a simple one. The main theme is players bid to buy something at prices that escalate by the minute, depending on how far the buyer's budget can stretch.

There are a lot of common things to auction, with the theme stretching from the common (antiques, ornamental, land deeds) to the outlandish and far-off (service, a date, probably something unexpected). Just make sure to present at least ten things. These are ten items that would seriously pique the interest of any demographic out there in the fair. Auctions should not be limited to one group or one market.

Auctions by far, would cost the same as setting up a booth, albeit you'll need to spend a hefty sum to use for advertising. There are a lot of preparations needed to pull off a successful auction. Go with flyers, banner and posters to catch attention. Set the venue up earlier than expected to keep people excited. Prepare the electronics if you plan on using microphones and announcer systems for the auction

Auctions WILL be boring so make sure concession stand are nearby. Commission food stands and vendors to move themselves nearer your area when it is auction time. This would also benefit them, as the amount of people within the site offers them a bigger audience for their market as well. Prepare everything that they should be within easy reach. Directions to the site should be posted, and tables and items neatly labeled, numbered and tagged for inventory. If the event is held outside, supplement and prepare. If you have to, prepare umbrellas or a very large tent.

Auctions are quite popular if you do come across them. The general man would think of it like a rich man's game, and if the item is within their budget (or if it is relevant to their interests), they will buy it. Be prepared that there would be some leftover items, and that you couldn't get to sell all of them. That's okay. Save them for the next auction. But don't force yourself. If auctioning doesn't work for you, then don't force it. If it works for you, then learn strategies and tactics to command the audience. Intensity is key to making people buy stuff.
