The gane of golf continues to be increasingly popular, unfortunately the numbers of high scoring hackers continues to rise as well. High scores are easily avoided by remembering to practice some golf swing basics.

Golf is a game of many parts and the main challenge is to become competent in all areas, especially the short game.

Hitting the driver might be the most difficult part of golf. For many golfers, its basically like rolling the dice. You've got a slim chance that you're going to be able to hit the fairway.

It has been proven that for every 6 balls struck of the tee 2 will finish in the water and another two will be lost in the trees.

If you practice little but play often then and you have a bad temper then quite likely you will wrap your driver around the nearest tree after most drives.

You need to master the golf swing basics such as the following to produce a consistent drive on a regular basis.

A critical step to take is to make sure you are teeing the ball on a high tee. If you are using one of those deep headed drivers then this is especially important.

A lot of golfers use a tee that is far too low and this creates instant problems where the ball rarely gets up into the air, a low raking hook is the usual result.

Every beginner is familiar with the scuffed shots that bump just a few feet in front of them.

Secondly make sure you position the ball correctly, for a driver is should be just inside your front foot, not in the middle of your stance.

For a driver you want to sweep the ball off the tee putting it in the middle of your stance makes this impossible.

As a driver has little loft you must try to hit the ball from the bottom to gain the necessary height.

That in turn allows you to get more distance on the ball. Over time this will increase as you swing becomes more efficient.

Another area to pay attention to is that you are placing the clubface squarely to the ball.

If this happened there would not be so many golfers searching through the woods for their ball.

As you address the ball stop and bring the club straight up to waist level, look at the clubface to check if it is pointing straight up and therefore will be square to the ball.

Take these golf swing tips into consideration the next time you hit the links. Hopefully with a little practice doing it the right way, you can start to shave strokes off of your game.
