In the market today, there are a lot of snow shovels out, and each one brings with it the imagination of its designer to the spotlight. All of them promise to make the job of shoveling snow much easier. You may find that you have difficulty with choosing the right one because of the number of good options out there. Let us take a look at some of the choices you have:
Let us look at the standard shovel, first and foremost. Snow is lighter than soil, so the snow shovel needs to have a bigger blade to be able to scoop up a bigger amount. Unfortunately, the simple approach has caused a lot of backaches and problems; you have to bend down to be able to scoop up properly. While, yes, snow is lighter than soil, it can still tend to get pretty heavy.
One recent innovation is the combining of the shovel with a wagon. Called a wovel by some, this uses the simple idea of wheels to make shoveling snow easier. All in all, it's a cute design, but it may not be the preferred choice for those who dislike bulky things.
Or you could just decide to scrap the notion of the shovel altogether. You can opt to go for a snow blower, instead; it's essentially a lawn mower that has been re-outfitted with fans that blow piled-up snow away. Snow blowers are effective, but they will cost you a significant amount of money. It's a complicated machine, and it will eventually break down relatively often.
The one thing that I'm most excited about, though, is the design that is essentially just a classic shovel with very few modifications. Once you see this type of shovel, you will note that a bungee cord extends from the bar. Ending in a second handle, this simplistic design uses elastic physics to enhance the capacity of the snow shovel. As you also get to keep yourself standing upright through the whole thing, the back problems vanish as well.
