Weekly Craft Show Tips Part Three

If you think you are able to predict which of your wares will be a hot item at the weekly fair, then you have another think coming. It is impossible to predict such a thing, I dare say; or how much you will be able to garner for that week, for that matter. I have a few crafted items that are gathering dust on my weekly booth for a month now, and I just wipe it off daily. As things go, when I'm about to remove it, someone jumps in to buy it. Very puzzling.

There is no simple way to determine if you will sell each item. But, it's a lot harder to accept the fact that there is no way to know how much you will sell in total for a given week. It feels so exhilarating when people appreciate your crafted works and they walk away from something they found at your booth. But, it's a lot less fun when all you get for your troubles is a few glances every now and then, and no visitors to even peruse your booth.

When you are doing a weekly show, you must strive to keep your emotions in tow. On the one hand, nothing says you have talent better than having your wares sell like cupcakes. On the other hand, the opposite is also true when the money isn't flowing in like honey. You will start to question your talents, and you may get disheartened.

Focus on the numbers and tally those, instead of stressing over your week to week sales. Try to see if you have had any good sales over longer periods of time; statistical data will provide a better understanding of your success than an individual day of effort. Find out what your weekly average is, and put an effort to maintaining or raising it.

Lastly, I will have to advise you to be cautious about customers haggling. Unfortunately, this is something that every seller in booths and stalls will have to contend with. You may even grow to hate it. You aren't some cheap flea market vendor, after all. You are the one who makes and puts in effort into the things they want to buy. Don't take it personally, though. It's just the haggler's mindset, and from their point of view, they just want to save money.
