For three weeks, starting on September 12th and continuing until October 3rd, the Brisbane Festival and River Festival are merging into one extraordinary event. There will be international and Australian artist productions in theatres, street and parks.

The festival is a celebration of the Brisbane relationship with the river as well as the diverse and eclectic communities.

Several events are constant and highlights- the festival is opened each year with an amazing fireworks display over the Brisbane River. The best vantage points are southbank, the city and West End. Riverfire is a huge fireworks show. It has dazzling visual choreography, air-force jets and a synchronized soundtrack. Riversymposium is also a regular event. This is an international conference on the best practice for river management and waterways preservation. Over its 10 year life span, it has attracted some of the worlds leading scientists and experts on the topic.

Some other events throughout the festival include; Out of the River...Imagine. This highlights the fact that on average 350 plastic bags, 700 plastic bottles and over one million bread tags are cleaned from the river each week. They do this by transforming the plastic bags into 350 kites, plastic bottle are transformed into costumes, chandeliers and other art objects and stretching across the Victoria Bridge is a massive collection of bread tags.

Liquid Lens is a film festival showing casing original shorts and animation films about water from local filmmakers. There are also events which combine native culture and contemporary performers that pay tribute to the river and celebrate cultural collaborations. Local restaurants, also join in on the festivities by conducting the Seafood Festival, Prawn peeling and Oyster eating competitions. This year they have also added a new event called SunSuper River BBQ. This is a free BBQ at the Goodwill Bridge complete with musicians, art installation and a cooked breakfast.

The River Concert is held in the Botanical Gardens where you can listen to anything from Jazz to hip-hop and there are many activities for children.

These events make for a great fun time to visit Brisbane and see everything it has to offer.
