For anyone intent on visiting Italy at some point, you would be mad to miss out on checking out Amalfi. Amalfi is a small town on the Mediterranean coastline and will fascinate tourists from near and far.
There is only one way to get to Amalfi. And that is to travel along the coast road. but this is no ordinary coastal road. You see, it is perched on the edge of high cliffs and affords a spectacular view of the azure sea. The road is extremely narrow and winding. This can make driving a challenge and important to keep your eye on the road. however the views are something else and maybe not for those scared of heights.

This is a baroque styled building which sits atop of the Piazza Duomo. The piazza is scattered with many quaint shops and restaurants. It is a popular spot to partake of some alfresco eating or take a coffee in the Summer. The dominate feature of the square is the long, sweeping stairway that joins the Duomo to the Piazza. Many a holiday snap is taken on these stairs.
There are plenty of specialties of the region but the one you will quickly become familiar with is the limoncello liqueur. It is literally everywhere from tourist shops or as an aperitif or after meal drink in cafes and restaurants. It is a sweet lemon liqueur that is made from the juicy, plump lemons native to the region.

If you are looking to spend some time at the beach on a sunny day then Positano might be for you. Positano has a unique pebble beach that is set in a bay. The town is built into the hillside that makes up the bay in a stepped fashion. this means that the whole town is literally leaning over the beach. By looking up at the town from the beach, you get this unique view of the quaint old buildings that are multi colored. This is a picture postcard view and you will be tempted to take a shape if you have a camera on you.
The region is quite rural or agricultural and you will be sure to see workers bringing in the olive harvest when you travel throughout the region. There is a genuine authentic feel to Amalfi and Positano that you will never see if you only visit Rome and the other big cities.
