Color Choices for your Polished Concrete

Ever wonder how polished concrete got colors? Coloring and decorating a polished concrete was made possible through the use of stains that react and bond with the chemical properties of concrete. Stains come in different varieties and types depending on the process of concrete polishing one has in mind. Stains that are used in decorative concrete polishing come in liquid emulsion form for reasons of ease of operations and budget savings.

The most common type of concrete staining is the use of colorants which are combined with the concrete mix prior to hardening. These colorants are bonded with the concrete aggregates thus resulting in a colored appearance. Such colorants are found to be Iron Oxides which are commonly used during past and present concrete coloring applications. Iron pigment Oxides are first used during prehistoric times in art caves.

Acid staining is a process of concrete coloring that are widely being used nowadays because of its aesthetic appeal and economic savings. The color is produced by combining an acid solution of water, acid and salt onto the newly prepared concrete surface. The acid solution reacts with the concrete (preferably the lime content in it) thus producing a unique marble-like color in the surface.

Before the acid staining process, the concrete is thoroughly prepared to be able to accept the acid mixture. Newly poured concrete needs not to be prepared. Old concrete needs to be grounded down to reveal a polished surface. Loose aggregates and cracks should also be removed as they do not accept acid staining. An old concrete should also be void of previously acid stained surface as it does not accept acid stain either.

Unlike acid staining which is merely a chemical reaction, water based stains are tints and dyes that are directly applied onto a concrete surface. These types are most advisable when creating with a specific design on the concrete surface. Water based stains range from translucent to opaque color applications.

A nice big spray of carnations, sprinkled with some jasmine and chrysanthemum are an array of edible flowers that need not be thrown away after spending a day or two in the vase. Carnation petals are surprisingly sweet, and jasmine and chrysanthemum are great for flavoring up mom's afternoon tea. It may take mom a bit of convincing, but why miss out on the good stuff in edible flowers? These are not only tasty, but they are nutritious, too!

There are edible flowers that don't make good bouquets, but are great gift ideas, anyway. How about a small potted collection of garlic, leeks, and onions? The edible flowers in these plants give off the same flavor as the bulbs and stems, albeit milder. The same goes for the edible flowers in sage, marjoram, basil, and thyme. These would look good on that sunny side of the kitchen, near the window sill. Imagine it all lined up - fragrant herbs with small white, lavender, and yellow edible flowers. What a beauty!

There are around 303 wineries in Oregon, all boasting unique tasting wines and a tourism industry worth your money. Much of the tours focus in the wineries themselves and private tasting rooms around Yamhill Valley, near southwest of Portland City. The state produces five distinct varieties that are nationally recognized: Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Riesling.

Others that are lesser known but are still significantly produced are Cabernet Sauvingnon, Gewurtraminer, Muller-Thurgau, Pinot blanc, Sauvignon blanc, Semillon and Syrah. Lesser known wines produced in small quantities are Zinfandel, Viognier, Tempranillo, Sangiovese, Petite Syrah, Nebbiolo, Muscat, Malbec, MArechal Foch, Grenache, Gamay Noir, Dolcetto, Arneis, Baco noir, Cabernet franc, and Chenin blanc.

Pinot noir is wine made with the red wine grape species Vitis vinifera. Otherwise known as Pinot noir grapes. Pinot and noir means 'pine' and 'black' respectiviely, and indeed, it is compacted like the nuts of a pine cone and the blackest of black grapes. Pinot noir grapes grow best in the cooler regions of Oregon, but the grape is more profilic in the Burgundy grapevines of France.

The grapes of Pinot noir variety produce some of the most excellent wines, though it is hard to cultivate and maintain. Winter cress is an excellent pot herb that can be picked and eating from different generations. Winter cress is commonly found in fields, gardens and near waste grounds (don't pick the ones that grow ON the waste). Although mistakenly being referred to as winter cress, they start their life in late summer, grow in fall and winter and is ready for picking and eating come March. The plant itself is bitter, but you can harvest it as early as Fall or by mixing the mature leaves with younger greens to counter balance the bitter taste.

Water cress, sounding the same like the winter cress, are aquatic plants floating around the ponds, creeks and cold springs in local areas. They have bright green leaves that are small, smooth and neatly arranged on long, slender stalks.

Best eaten at around April to June, these delightful greens have an irresistible pungent smell (a little odor too) that goes great with almost all salads and for accompanying and garnishing meat dishes. Water cress is very rich in Vitamin C, and is often used for supplementing. It is also a rich source of calcium, iron, phosphate and Vitamin A.

Wild lettuce, as the name says, is common around the lowland parts of pastures, cleared woodlands and along the rich soil deposits of streams and rivers. It is more related to the dandelion however, and wild lettuce is best eaten during the months of March up until the first week of April. Eat it sooner than that and the plant will become bitter and virtually inedible by taste standard.

Moby Dick is an All-American Classic Tale. It was written in 1851 by an American novelist named Herman Melville. It is the story of the battle between a ship owned by Captain Ahab and a ferocious white sperm male named Moby Dick. Moby Dick is a story that was regarded the high value of being discussed in American schools as part of their curriculum. The story has an interesting history because it wasnt accepted by many the moment it was released. It wasnt until 1930 when the book was republished with illustrations that it finally gained popularity.

American artist named Frank Stella made several artworks focusing on the tale of Moby Dick as its concept from 1985 to 1997. He created one artwork or two to each of the novels 165 chapters. The varying artworks altogether sum up to about 266 pieces of sculptures, metal relief, murals and prints. Some say that Stella has genuine likeness for the novel that bordered down to him making these timeless pieces of art. His works are currently considered as one of America's treasures.

There will be an exhibition to be held showcasing Moby Dick works by Frank Stella at the Grand Rapids Art Museum, Michigan. The Commonwealth of Virginia lies on the Atlantic Coast off the Southern United States. Virginia's capital is Richmond, with Virginia Beach as the most populous city, Fairfax County being the most populous political subdivision.

Virginia have had an estimated population well over seven million seven hundred thousand people. Counting the migration that is occurring at around two hundred thousand people into the state, the population density is most concentrated in the Goochland County. Most of the citizens in Virginia speak standard American English, comprising at least 95% of the population that has it as a primary or secondary language. Spanish comes at a close five percent, while the three percent speaks Asian and Pacific-born languages, including those of the Vietnamese and the Filipinos, who have made their new homes in Virginia.

Virginia has some of the largest denominations in terms of ethnic ancestry. A lot of the residents are African (making up twenty percent of the population), German (at least eleven percent), English (11 percent) and Irish (ten percent). Most of the African-Americans today have had ancestors working on tobacco, cotton and hemp plantations long ago. The western mountains have many camps founded by Scottish-Irish immigrants before the Revolution.

State Fair: Utah

The Patriots Day Celebration is held to honor all the good men and women who selflessly serve our community, our state and our country. A lot of events will be made available for participation.

The Beef Feast by the Utah Beef Council is one that should not be missed. Starting at 11 in the morning, the beefy smorgasbord begins. The food they cook on site is excellent, the aroma, divine. Two bucks for a drink to go with your five dollar beef sandwich with chips on the side. The Guitar Hero III Video Game Tournament is also up for grabs, wherein aspiring Guitar Heroes vie to enter and try to win 2 tickets and perform to compete at the Main Event on the 11th of September.

If giant trucks are your thing, the UTTPI Truck Pull is the thing for you. The event is free with the paid admission. There be dirt flipping, smoke belching in the arena with these monsters. Then if you're just the type to sit back, relax, and watch the kids and the livestock amble on, then the Jr. Livestock Auction is for you. Kids are encouraged to join as they could gain knowledge and skills that they could use in farm life. The Studebaker Club Car Show is also on display for all the classic cars. And last but not the least, the Bountiful Chrysler Jeep Dodge Demo Derby, for hardcore demolition action. Ten bucks for admission if you reserve in advance.

The State Fair is not the state fair without a music competition. The 2009 Utah State Fair Music Competition will also be held in the same area this year. Competitors that would like to enter the competition are requested to submit early applications at the soonest possible time at the presiding commissioners of the Utah State Fair.

The same could be said for those who would like to enter the competitive exhibitions and the use and purchase of concessionaire stands.

Blair Betts Bio

The New York Rangers acquired Blair Betts in the 2005-06 NHL Hockey season and he has been with them, centering on the defensive 4th line. He is one of the New York Rangers most consistent face-off men winning a more than losing them.

The New York Post wrote that Blair Betts and his teammate, Sjostrom, could be the best penalty kill tandem in Rangers history and they had a franchise high of 87.6 percent. He has also been declared one of the most underrated players in the league.

Having played for the Calgary Flames since 1998, before joining the New York Rangers, this Canadian born ice hockey player weighs 210 pounds at 6 feet 3 inches. His pro career started in 2001 and he has been a consistent defensive center.

The New York Rangers, however, have not done so well. They are going through their highest losing streak, so it may be hard to determine where some of the praise for Blair Betts is translating into winning games for the team.

Blair Betts has been also plagued with injuries, suffering a broken orbital bone around his left eye in May, 2008, and recovering from an upper body injury in December, 2008. Prior to that injury, he had three goals and five points in 28 games this past season. In his fourth season with the New York Rangers, he has missed time with injuries to his knee, foot and face.

Of course, ice hockey in the NHL can be a rough and tumble game and many defensive players can get injured from rough play or fights on the rink. Blair Betts, at 28 years old, has been playing professionally since 2000, when he joined the AHL, Calgary Flames.

Betts started playing hockey even before this, of course. He got his start with the Western Hockey League's Prince George Cougars, with whom he played from 1996 until being taken by the Calgary Flames in the 1998 NHL draft. Hockey can really take its toll on an athlete, with many wondering if Betts' health is beginning to suffer as a result of his time in the sport.

In the 2005-06 NHL hockey season, he scored eight goals and two assists with the New York Rangers. Since that time, he has been used primarily on special teams and has done well in penalty killing and winning face-offs.

In his over 300 games played since the 2001-02 season, Blair Betts has scored 27 goals and 18 assists, with the majority of those being since he joined the New York Rangers. The Rangers are suffering as a team this season with their record, and his time out with injuries could be part of the reason, although it seems that the offense of the Rangers could be the primary reason, having difficulty scoring points all year.

Experts blame the Rangers last place position on a lack of confidence and a failure of the players to gel as a team. Whether Blair Betts can do much to help bring the Rangers out of the slump remains to be seen. Other players, and Rangers General Manager, Sather could shoulder much of the blame. Blair Betts has a lot of work cut out for him with this team, and could probably do better on one that would do him justice.
