One of the most enjoyable things about living in Australia is the fact that going for bike rides as a family is such a great way to spend your free time. My husband and I have a 2 year old girl who enjoys going for bike rides with us but is too young to ride her own bike, so we were looking for a good child bike seat.
As our 6 and 10 years olds have their own bikes we only needed a child bike seat for youngest, but finding a suitable one was a problem. The only models we could find we rear mounted so we couldn't see him properly and he got fed up looking at my husband's back for the whole journey.
I tried everywhere to get a child bike seat that was more 'family friendly' but all the places selling bike seats for children seemed only stock a few different models. Then I came across ibert.co.nz which sells one of the most unique child bikes seats I have ever seen.
The SafeTSeat is designed to be mounted to the front of the adult's bike, behind the handle bars, with the child's legs on either side of them. To protect the child's legs when they are in the child bike seat the leg sections of the seat are made from moulded plastic which is tough and resilient.
One concern that I did have about the SafeTSeat was mounting it to my husband's bike and removing it if he wanted to go for a ride by himself. Usually mounting and removing a child bike seat is really fiddly but this is a breeze, my husband has got removing it down to a fine art and can take it off in under a minute.
When I first saw the design of the child bike seat I was initially concerned that using it would shift the centre of gravity for the rider and make balancing quite difficult. I shouldn't have worried as it doesn't make any difference to the balance of the rider.
In addition to the child bike seat being practical and functional it also gives our son the chance to see everything that we do - no more staring at his dad's back. We can all chat together and enjoy the scenery as a family and our son loves his new seat.
Each time we set off for a family bike ride we make sure that the only child bike seat we use is the SafeTSeat. This seat is the child bike seat to choose if you are looking for something that is safe, secure and enjoyable for children to use.
