If you don't know what to get, it is easy to buy a mountain board and then later on, realize you should have gotten a different one. While they may all look the same, there are a few things to take note of before you buy one. In this article you will learn what you need to know before you buy a mountain board. For future reference, mountain boards may also be called, mountainboards, dirtboards, grassboards, or off road skateboards.

First off, how much do you weigh? That is important when it comes to selecting a mountain board. Some boards don't have weight limits, but for the ones that do, make sure you aren't above it.

After considering your weight, think about how you plan on using your mountain board. Do you want to take it to a skate park, a mountain boarding park and focus mainly on tricks? Are you the kind of rider that wants to hit ramps and rails and pull of sweet tricks? If you are, you probably want a freestyle board, which are lighter and smaller.

If freestyle riding doesn't appeal to you, are you the kind of rider that wants to ride down trails, grass hills, dirt roads, or anything and everything? Do you want to carve and bomb down hills? If this sounds like you, try finding a mountain board that is made for freeriding. Boards for freeriding tend to be longer and heavier, and some have larger wheels, so that it can easily roll over rougher terrain.

Perhaps both freestyle riding and freeriding appeal to you. Many riders want a board that can do everything. They want a mountain board that they can take to the ramps, hills and trails- one that is good for everything. If you want an all-around board, look for the medium sized mountain boards.

If you look online, you should be able to find lots of mountain boards to choose from. If you are one of the lucky few that have a shop near you that carries mountain boards, head on over and see what you like. Make sure that when you buy a mountain board you take into account your weight and riding preference, that way you will get one that is best for you.
