The Mark: Whitman is phenomenal in his depiction of spiritually busted sex offender who has served his time and now desires to make new start. Cast includes Stuart Whitman, Maria Schell, Rod Steiger, Brenda De Hanzie, Maurice Denham, Donald Wolfit, Paul Rogers, and Donald Houston. (127 minutes, 1961)

Blithe Spirit: Delectable adaptation of Noel Coward's comedy fantasy in regards to a guy whose long since passed first spouse appears to haunt-and tease him in his recently wedded life. Rutherford is remarkable as Madame Arcati, the metaphysical medium. This film made an Oscar for its visual effects. Cast includes Rex Harrison, Constance Cummings, Kay Hammond, Margaret Rutherford, Hugh Wakefield, and Joyce Carey. (96 minutes, 1945)

Sense and Sensibility: Lucid, modern-day look at Jane Austen's novel in reference to 2 recently impoverished siblings one impulsive and flirtatious, the other persistently hindered and made to suppress her sensations of love. Impeccably cast and acted, a vigorous and moving film dealing with how dissimilar identities handled them in early 19th-century England. Thompson won an Oscar for Best Screenplay Adaptation. Cast includes Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Kate Winslet, Hugh Grant, James Fleet, Harriet Walter, Gemma Jones, Elizabeth Spriggs, Robert Hardy, Greg Prudent, Imelda Staunton, Imogen Stubbs, Hugh Laurie, and Tom Wilkinson. (135 minutes, 1995)

It Started With a Kiss: Airy comedy in reference to crazy Reynolds and her Army officer spouse Ford, trying to make a go of marriage. The film is set in Spain. Cast includes Glenn Ford, Debbie Reynolds, Eva Gabor, Fred Clark, Edgar Buchanan, and Harry Morgan. (104 minutes, 1959)

The Clown: Emotional redo of The Winner in regards to a cleaned-up, self-hating comic with a committed child who looks out for him. Skelton's good in a rare dramatic role. Considine is so excellent he defeats some of the hokiness of script. Charles Bronson has a tiny role in dice game scene. Cast includes Red Skelton, Tim Considine, Jane Greer, Loring Smith, and Philip Ober. (91 minutes, 1953)

Last summer: Commanding tale based on Evan Hunter novel of adolescents playing on the shore in a summer resort. The film follows their games, sensual awakenings, and how evil materializes itself with incredible determination. Cathy Bums was a standout. Cast includes Richard Thomas, Barbara Hershey, Bruce Davison, Cathy Burns, Ralph Waite, and Conrad Bain. (97 minutes, 1969)

Marie Antoinette: Visually sumptuous account of an adolescent's voyage from Vienna to the Palace at Versailles and the throne of France. Author-director Coppola's Marie (as played by Dunst) is a modern-day gal, with contemporary music set contrary to the pomp and circumstance of the 18th century life. Starts to tire eventually and ends with a cry, not a smash although there's much to like here. Cast includes Kirsten Dunst, Jason Schwartzman, Judy Davis, Tear Tom, Steve Coogan, Rose Byrne, Asia Argento, Molly Shannon, Shirley Henderson, Danny Huston, Marianne Faithfull, Mary Nighy, and Sarah Adler. (123 minutes, 2006)

Semi-Tough: Carefree comedy in reference to 2 football megastars and their reciprocal lady friend drifts too much to hit some chief points however it does have some ludicrous minutes. Reynolds' charm makes up for film's other deficiencies. Cast includes Burt Reynolds, Kris Kristofferson, Jill Clayburgh, Robert Preston, Bert Convy, Lotte Lenya, Roger E. Mosley, Richard Masur, Carl Weathers, Brian Dennehy, and Ron Silver. (108 minutes, 1977)

Heart like a Wheel: Well-made although curiously uninspiring bio of race-car driver Shirley each other and much discussion is unintelligible to American ears (albeit if you might make it through the first reel, hang on). Cast includes Bonnie Bedelia, Leo Rossi, Hoyt Axton, Bill McKinney, Anthony Edwards, Dean Paul Martin, Paul Bartel, Dick Miller, and Terence Knox. (113 minutes, 1983)
