Hobbies are enriching bits in people's lives. That's why it's something each of us ought to have one or two of. It may be an exaggeration of sorts, but having a hobby is a good way of keeping yourself sane. It may be excessive, but true to a point. As they say, all work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy.
It's up to you to decide what you want to occupy yourself with in your spare time, but if I were to offer advice, I'd say go for something specific. Don't try to be a jack-of-all-trades, as this will only make you a master of none. Being highly skilled at one or few things is better than being mediocre at a lot of things. Collect figures of dogs or train parrots to talk. Pick a few to concentrate on first.
The most intriguing hobbies I've come across is the collection of one's own crafted pieces. It doesn't matter what crafts these are, as long as you put in considerable time and effort towards making and perfecting them, they're sure to be an object of pride. As another piece of advice, I suggest sticking to small types of crafts, as you don't want your home cluttered up with piles of them as the days go by.
Once you have a decent sized collection of your crafted items, you may want to think about displaying your items to a larger group of people. Simply put, recognition is a need for most people; same as the way most people are afraid of criticism. It's human nature. Many choose to show their works to a selected number of people, as these loved ones will censor their comments, giving only sugarcoated positive ones to avoid hurting your feelings.
Don't fall for that. In the end, the most rewarding thing about making and collecting crafts of a similar theme is that you get to see people you don't know to appreciate them. Don't be afraid of the criticisms; if anything, they will help you improve your craft. So, whenever you're ready, show off those crafts in one of the many craft shows!
