Portion Control During Special Occasions

Sometimes it is a pain when you attend special occasions, and you have to watch what you eat. People may stare at you or make comments because they do not understand why you are not taking advantage of the free eats. Don't worry though; it is better to watch what you eat then it is to get sick.

The challenge is that most people put on weight during holidays and other special occasions and this is one of those things that is just socially acceptable to do. This makes one feel outside the norm when you are not able to do the same. The good news is that there are ways for you to take control of your eating and not have to lose anything behind it.

One way to watch portion control is to stop before you fill your plate. What is it that you really want from all the food on the table? You could start by taking only a small portion of each of the foods that look interesting to you. In this way your portions are still under control and you were able to get a taste of everything.

If you have difficulty figuring out your portions, a great way to get a good visual is to use a Meal Measure. This identifies your proportions and once you get the hang of it, you will automatically see the amount in your head when you are out and about.

Many people do this as sampling, and it is an easy way to make sure that you don't overeat as long as you stay with the types of food that you are supposed to eat. This will be determined by your physician and the eating plan that he or she has prescribed.

Sometimes it is difficult to know when you are full and this can cause a problem with overeating. It is therefore a good idea to make sure that you are careful with the amount of food you eat so that you do not get overly full. This will defeat the purpose of portion control.

Remember that portion control is only one part of the puzzle to keep your weight under control. You must also be involved in some type of exercise. If you choose an exercise program that is something you will enjoy, you will be most likely to stick with it. Also, it should include strength training to keep your body strong.
