If you are going on vacation to Cancun, you are going to have a blast. As you get prepared, consider the money you have and the time you'll be there. You can fly to the area you are going or you can go on a nice long cruise. When traveling with a friend, ensure that you have limitations you agree on and then plan away.

Usually a cruise to Cancun will either leave from Galveston or Miami. Usually the ships are going to leave for Cancun in the evening time. Most of the ships that leave from the western area of the U.S. will end up taking you to Mexican Riviera.

If flying is the option you have chosen, you may be able to save by booking your flight and a hotel together. If you do decide to go with a travel agent for your trip plans, ensure that they let you know everything that is included in the vacation you are paying for.

It's a good idea to figure out whether you are going to Cancun Calica or to Cancun Playa del Carmen. Both are great options. Calica will offer great beaches, a wonderful night life, and tours of historic ruins and interesting nature parks. On the other hand, Playa del Carmen is a town on the beach. You can check out tropical forests, enjoy touring some ruins, or even check out the biosphere reserve.

Of course take sunscreen with you. Since you'll probably end up in the water while you are vacationing in Cancun, it's probably a good idea to go with sunscreen that is waterproof.

Make sure you contact the service provider for your cell phone. Find out what you'll be paying to roam in Mexico. This is important if you are going to stay in touch with your office or with those you care about.

Most of your money should be in traveler's checks. Most establishments are happy to have American money, but if you exchange cash for pesos, do it at a bank. Carry your theft information for your traveler's checks separately from the checks, and if you have a credit card be certain you have theft protection. If you do have pesos, be careful not to tear them, and do not accept torn bills, because the Mexican government does not honor torn money.

You should be tipping your night club service, wait service, and the hotel staff. Usually ten to fifteen percent is a good rule of thumb.

If you are going to travel by cab, let them know where you are going and come up with an agreed upon price. You don't have to tip the cab driver.

When you are walking to your destination, never go by yourself. Remember, pedestrians in Mexico are not given the right of way, so be very careful.

Consider talking to the staff at your hotel to find out great places to visit. For great gay nightlife, the Karamba club is one that is excellent to visit.

No matter where you are traveling or how you are getting there, make certain you check about luggage restrictions, including how many pieces you can carry, the size, the weight, and the cost for extra pieces. Also, call the airport or the cruise line a few days before departure to learn about any boarding restrictions on what you can carry with you. The best trips are well planned. You can have fun now organizing your trip, and then while you are actually on vacation you won't have any surprises to spoil it!
