Essentials For A Great Camping Trip

While there are many items that you could take on a camping trip, my family finds that there are a few things we cannot do without. While you may always plan to take these same things on your camping trip, some of the others you may have never thought of and they could make the trip more enjoyable. Hopefully you will learn at least one new thing through this article.

Do not forget your tent. Even RV campers often find that a tent makes a great storage locker for extra gear. Often the kids will enjoy sleeping out in a tent giving mom and dad more room in the RV. Cabin style tents provide more headroom for campers that do dome style tents.

We also like to take plenty of plastic tarps. Before setting up our tent, we place a large tarp on the ground under where the tent will set. This keeps the moisture from the ground from seeping up through the tent floor and keeps our tent clean from pitch and pine needles for easy storage.

We have one tarp that is large enough to cover the entire top of the tent as a rain fly in case of rainy weather. This was especially helpful the day my son learned that the water would come inside if you touched the tent and that he could spell his name with the moisture on the side of the tent.

During the cooler camping season we use tarps to make windbreaks for a canopy and to enclose the picnic table where we can play games warmed by the propane lantern.

We often choose to pay a few dollars more for a campsite with electrical hookups. This keeps us from having to bring the camp stove and all the extra pots and pans. An electric frying pan and coffeemaker will suffice for most of our camp meals that need heat. At times we have been known to take a fan along for warm nights or to keep down the outside noise. This is very helpful if you have small children who have difficulty sleeping due to the outside noise.

The most important thing that we take on our camping trips is a good attitude. I find that if my wife and I have a good attitude that our kids always have fun. If one or the other of us start the trip off on the wrong foot, it can spoil the weekend for everyone. Whatever you do as you plan your camping trip, be sure that you pack a good attitude.
